Sedgefield Racecourse hosts a special lunch for Denys Smith and his family on Sunday 31st January. Denys continues to be the leading trainer at Sedgefield with 145 wins, in second place is Brian Ellison with 86 wins, followed by Donald McCain and Sue Smith with 79 wins. To celebrate this unbeaten track record, he will be joined by friends, special guests and Sedgefield’s very supportive and loyal trainers.

Stockton-born racing broadcaster Derek Thompson will host this event and will be joined by guest speakers to explain how Denys became so successful.

This lunch sees the beginning of a new and exciting competition where our loyal Trainers are challenged to “Beat the Best” with the benchmark set by Denys Smith. Trainers’ wins will be monitored and the most successful Trainer will win a Private Suite for 20 guests along with complimentary drinks at a Sedgefield Race Meeting in 2017.

Jill Williamson, Executive Director “It is with great pleasure to be looking back at Denys Smith’s career at Sedgefield with his unbeaten track record and we are so pleased to be honouring a celebration of his life as a racehorse trainer. Denys continues to be a huge supporter at Sedgefield, attending almost every fixture so we wanted to do something special for him. We look forward to seeing more successful Trainers at Sedgefield and are thrilled to be able offer something back through this exciting competition”
