Croxdale Fastfit, Newton Aycliffe are supporting Chilton-based charity County Durham Furniture Help Scheme (CDFHS).  The registered charity and not for profit organisation, which is managed by Directors/ Trustees and supported by around 50 volunteers from the area, is entirely dependent on the smooth running of the charity’s four vehicles for the collection and delivery of furniture and household goods.
The primary aim of CDFHS is to provide any individual in need with low-cost, affordable items, primarily furniture but household items too. Items are collected free of charge, repaired and redistributed in the area. This means that items around 200 tonnes plus in weight which would usually go into landfill are recycled and furniture along with other items, are repaired and sold at affordable prices to people in the area and across the region.
Managing Director Chris Palmer comments “We are extremely grateful to Brian and the team at Croxdale Fastfit for their kind help.  Each of our four vehicles has to cope with 20,000 miles per year and we have to keep the vans in excellent condition as so many people rely on us to collect and deliver goods.  As we are a charity, every penny that we can save counts and keeps us focused on efforts to help people who may be in need at the moment.”
Brian Hoar from Croxdale Fastfit said “We are very happy to support CDFHS, there are a lot of people who need assistance with every day items from washing machines to sofas and we are pleased to provide help with the vehicles.  Our team is helping out with the wear and tear and the safety critical work so that the vans are in good condition to meet the demands of the delivery and collections across the area.”
