Coronation Celebration Meeting
8th February, 7pm in Heighington Village Hall
Following our successful Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations last year we have been asked many times to do it again so it has always been in my diary to start planning in January. As everyone knows our King Charles’ Coronation has been confirmed on 6th May so, following a recent meeting, we have decided to combine our Music Festival with the Coronation by holding our celebrations day on Sunday 7th May. This will allow everyone to watch the Coronation on the television and hold street parties on the Monday which means everyone should be free to join us.
As there is only eleven weeks, from 8th February, to Coronation Celebrations Day, we would welcome your support to organise the event with lots to sort in very little time so, I invite you to come along to the Village Hall at 7pm on Wednesday 8th February to help the small committee discuss the day, it is fun.
Monthly Litter Pick – Saturday 11th February
Thanks to Judith King, our monthly litter pick is scheduled to go ahead on Saturday 11th February meeting outside of the Village Hall at 10pm. Our Litter Picks have been going over 16 years thanks to people like Peter Smyth, who managed the event for many years, which has been very successful in attracting lots of residents over the years who are all keen to keep this village and its surroundings clean. If there is a moan – we could do with some younger members of the community joining us as we are all cracking on and some young blood would be most appreciated.
LitterFreeDurham
And another opportunity to clean up our communities Litterfree Durham’s Big Spring Clean is back. Yet another organisation born and bred in Heighington this time by Mr Kit Bartram and myself. The organisation was set up to raise public awareness of the consequences of dropping litter which included the enormous costs involved, the effect on wildlife and the demoralising effect on people. Many years ago we created the Big Spring Clean which encouraged individuals and groups to clean up their own communities and the numbers who took part increased year on year with over 4500 volunteers turning out at our last BSC.
