Heighington U8’s – The Heighington boys paid their respects to our brave soldiers on the run up to Remembrance Day. Playing a year up in Div 1 and mixing it amongst some of the best kids around.
Good 2-1 win for the lads.
Heighington U11’s: Durham Tigers 1 – Heighington 10 – Heighington were out of the traps early on in this game and were 3-0 up in the first five minutes. The boys seemed to have fire in their belly from the off and were driven in their approach. They very much indeed played for each other and got behind the opposition players and team when their heads dropped. I had some lovely comments from the opposition parents at the end which are a credit to our boys. Heighington played a 9 v 11 game for 40 minutes out of respect for the team they shared a field with today. Well done both sides, one very proud coach.
Goals: Lucas Faulkner x 3, Bruno Clack x 3, Jack Collingwood x 2, Mathis Gordon x 2.
MOTM: Jonah Wade, relentless in midfield, battled for everything and won many tackles. Played with passion and fire.
MOTM: Bruno Clack, ruthless and direct as always, another hat-trick to add to his tally. A threat all morning.
Heighington Under 13’s: Ryton & Crawcrook U13’s 2 – Heighington U13’s 7 – Heighington continued their promotion charge with a comfortable victory away to Ryton on a difficult pitch. The game was barely a few minutes old when Will Moffat opened the scoring with a fine finish. Ryton then capitalised on a loose pass in midfield to equalise. Leading goalscorer Ted Brain started on the bench today but quickly set about proving a point by scoring two quality goals before the half time whistle.
Half time: Ryton & Crawcrook 1 – Heighington 3. Playing down the slope in the second half, Heighington quickly took advantage with Will Barker superbly volleying home. Then this years leading goalscorers, Ted and Will Moffat, continued their personal goal competition with Will adding 2 more goals for a superb hat-trick, taking his season total to 8. Not to be outdone, Ted produced a fantastic finish to also complete his hat-trick and stay ahead of Will on the goalscoring charts with his ninth goal of the season.
A lapse in concentration gave Ryton a late penalty which they converted despite the best efforts of keeper Harry Irvine.
A superb result on a difficult pitch yet coaches Mike Brain and Jamie McCabe were not satisfied with some aspects of the display. A sign of the progress the team have made this year. Next week sees Heighington take a break from the league with a cup game against Wickham. Final Score: Ryton and Crawcrook 2 – Heighington 7.
Goals: Will Moffat x 3, Ted Brain x 3, Will Barker x 1.
Man of the Match: It was universally agreed by all watching that this award should be shared between Ted Brain and Will Moffat. Will continues to go from strength to strength each week. His work rate was first class and he produced a range of finishes to complete his hat-trick. His tally of eight goals from midfield is very impressive. Ted was simply unplayable today. The Ryton defenders panicked every time he was near and he brought his seasons tally to nine, with some fine individual goals.
