Deerness Valley Thunder U11 v Heighington FC U11
The last time these teams met, Deerness edged the cup tie by a single goal in a tight game. Roll forward a few weeks and Heighington’s progress was evident in this league game at the Sir Bobby Robson Sports Centre. Both teams started well but the red and blacks gradually gained the upper hand and engineered several good chances before Connor broke the deadlock with a smart finish. Heighington grew in confidence as the game went on; Connor nailed a classy brace and Noah capped an all-round good game with a quality hattrick. The lads showed calmness on the ball and displayed a good team spirit in this smart victory.
MOTM was a tough call and could have gone to a number of players. In the end it was shared between Jacob, who had his best game yet in goal, and Danny, who was composed and strong in a defensive midfield role.
