Our guest on Sundays Around Town was Derek R McDonough MBE a RAF veteran with thirty nine years service in operations overseas predominantly in the Middle east as well as in Iraq, Bosnia and the Falkland Islands. In the latter part of what was a distinguished military career he served with NATO as a trained evaluator. A highly decorated officer, in 2016 his work in the military was recognised and he was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honors.
An experienced university lecturer and a passionate advocate of education, learning and personal development, with a desire to expand his own learning and develop a new skills set he turned his hand to writing and in 2017 his first book, Blackfriars, was published and available in Kindle and Paperback on Amazon.
His second book, The Sventa Ikona (Sacred Icon), is nearing completion and will also be available on Amazon.
Ever the teacher, and willing advocate of helping people to learn new skills, Derek believes everyone has a story to tell, and maybe even a desire to one day write a novel themselves. Writing a book of any description requires commitment, as well as ability, and there are several important keys to successful writing, practical steps that need to be followed in order to make the dream a reality, and Derek is happy to talk to interested groups, or schools, to share his knowledge and experience and discuss these vital processes that, when applied, greatly increase your chance of making your book a reality.
