After last week’s unfortunate 2-1 defeat by Bishop Auckland Hogans FC, The Turbinia were knocked off the top of the Crook and District Division 2 Table.
This week FC Turbinia were visited by Wearhead United, one of the longest serving teams in the league. FC Turbinia were straight out of the blocks, and were ahead within 2 minutes after a powerful run from Luke Williams, saw him link up with Daniel Keane who finished with power, into the back of the net. Turbinia’s second came 3 minutes later from Daniel Dixon after he took the ball around the keeper and finished calmly, further goals from Keane and Dixon gave FC Turbinia a healthy half time 4-0 lead.
The second half saw changes to the Wearhead team, not only to the team, but to their overall attitude, they applied more pressure, trying to force mistakes, despite “The Tub” scoring again with a goal from Luke Black to make it 5-0, Wearhead battled back with 3 goals of their own during the second half, but the Aycliffe team did have the last say when Black slotted the ball past the keeper for his second of the game.
With the final score being 6-3, FC Turbinia keep the pressure on West Auckland WMC who are currently top of the table.
In other news, FC Turbinia have been drawn against Wearhead United in the Semi-Final of the Colin Waites Cup, in a game that is to be played at Simpasture Playing Fields, Newton Aycliffe on a date yet to be confirmed.
