Residents in South West Durham are being invited to attend the first regular evening service to be held at the historic St Peter’s Chapel located within Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland.

The evening worship, the first regular public service to be held at the former residence of the Bishop of Durham, will take place on the fourth Sunday of every month from 4-5pm, starting on Sunday, 26th May.

Led by Rev. Dr. Caroline Friswell, the priest in charge at St Peter’s Church in Byers Green, the new Service is designed to appeal to members of the community who don’t regularly attend church, with each monthly service differing in style ranging from traditional to contemporary and involving a variety of choirs and musicians from the local area.

During the first service on Sunday May, 26, those attending can expect a traditional evening prayer with organist and traditional hymns.  Future services will include contemporary worship with modern songs led by various music groups and choirs, and Book of Common Prayer Evensong with choirs.
