After the burial of Pastor Pamela Greenow at West Cemetery with 200 people at the graveside, a Thanksgiving Service was held at the Xcel Church filled by over 500 people, gathered to pay tribute to one of the founders of the Church.
Pamela and Glyn Greenow helped start the Full Gospel Church in Newton Aycliffe in 1967 beginning at Beveridge Hall (now demolished) moving to Woodham to their own premises in 1987. They outgrew this building to move into the new Xcel Centre in 2009 which enjoys great success, attracting members of all ages to Services which can only be described as very lively and emotionally uplifting.
The Thanksgiving Service for Pamela’s life, though tinged with sadness, concentrated on the legacy she left behind and the wonderful pastoral care she gave to those in need of spiritual and practical help.
Tributes from friends and family were heart rending and these were interspersed with singing by Rachael Mawston and Nikki Hopkins all bringing tears to the eyes. The church members provided a magnificent buffet afterwards for the congregation.
Newton News was able to talk to Glyn Greenow and his son John who both expressed their gratitude for all the cards, flowers and messages of sympathy received which have brought great comfort to the family.
We are proud to be associated with the Greenow family and what they have achieved in Newton Aycliffe over nearly 50 years. On behalf of the townspeople we pay tribute to Pamela for the contribution she made to the history of our new town.
