We believe that your Labour Team of seven County Councillors has served the town very well in the past four years.  However, we know there is a mood for improvement so we are making a number of joint-promises at the start of the election campaign. These are not ‘politicians’ promises’, but a planned agenda of what we will do if we are elected as a team.

1. THE ECONOMY With government grants falling, Aycliffe Business Park is our hope for the future. We therefore promise to:

• continue encouraging the business community;

• support the Forrest 2 extension;

• contribute to a revision of the Town Masterplan; and

• review through the Scrutiny process the Council’s contribution to Retail and Broadband provision in the County.

2. THE ENVIRONMENT. We promise to:

• bring ‘Operation Spruce Up’ to Newton Aycliffe, Aycliffe Village and Middridge;

• run campaigns against dogfouling and household flytipping; and

• continue to work on the wider issues of biodiversity and community resilience.

3. IN ADDITION:

• We have planned a pilot scheme to provide a number of weekly nutritious meals free of charge to needy families.

• We have pledged to provide the financial support to allow local organisations to host DLI Outreach sessions.

These promises are our local pledges ON TOP of Labour’s general manifesto for the whole County – for economic regeneration; education; housing; clean neighbourhoods; stronger, safer and healthier local communities, etc. We are excited about our agenda for the future— please elect us to achieve it.
