Our football club and the Newton Aycliffe football community were stunned to hear of the sudden loss of our under U15 Eagles coach, Daz Scott. Daz was playing for the Cobblers Over 40’s at South Shields on Saturday 12th February, when he collapsed on the side of the pitch and, despite the best efforts of everyone, he sadly died.
Football was a big part of Daz’s life and our thoughts are with his wife and children at this sad time.
On a sad weekend here are a few of the results.
Whinnybanks 3 v Aycliffe U11’s Eagles 2
This was one of the best games of the season. Whinnybanks managed to sneak through our defence and, despite the best efforts of Charlie in goal, scored. The boys continued to work hard looking for passes and had some chances but we couldn’t find the back of the net.
The second half and the boys really stepped up. Aiden smashes past the keeper for the equaliser. However, Whinnybanks managed to score another two goals. The Aycliffe lads didn’t let their heads go down and were awarded a penalty. Carter stepped up and calmly fired it past the keeper but we just couldn’t find the equaliser, an outstanding team performance with all players battling so hard. MOTM: Dan.
Aycliffe U18’s Girls 0 v Billingham 2
Another cold blustery day at the Oakleaf. With the wind against us it was a full defensive display, restricting Billingham and battling in all areas of the pitch. With five minutes left in the half, a cross somehow drops to their striker who couldn’t miss from ten yards. HT 0-1. We decide to go more attacking and push forward. We did get more of the ball but just couldn’t find the final pass. Billingham were defending in numbers but looked dangerous on the break. With 10 mins to go Billingham find the net and managed the game out to take the three points.
Aycliffe U8’s Eagles
The boys had a great first mini season before Christmas and got rewarded with moving up a league. The start of the new season has begun as they finished the last, with three wins out of three. Victories against Greatham FC last weekend and Billingham United on Saturday. Spraire Lads were the opponents on Sunday, in the driving rain and the team showed their fighting spirit and determination, as well as some excellent football, to come from behind at half time to win the match.
Aycliffe U8’s Wildcats v Boldon
This was a very entertaining game, despite gale force winds. Ava scoring twice, and Macy were the goal scorers, but all the girls were excellent. With Penny making an outstanding save late in the game to deny a determined Boldon. Well done girls.
