Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, lost a close game by 23 runs at home to Marton 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division. After being asked to bat first the visitors were dismissed for 130 after 41.2 overs thanks to some good bowling from the Aycliffe attack. Luke Telford led the way taking 4 for 49 and he was supported well by both Matty Greaves (sponsored by Britannia Fire) (3 for 9) and Leo Mercy (2 for 11). In reply, Aycliffe got off to a dreadful start and found themselves in deep trouble with half the side dismissed with just 28 runs on the board. Adam Gittins led the fight back when he top scored with 41 from 107 balls and other useful contributions from Matty Greaves (13 from 18 balls) and Joe Teasdale (11 from 23 balls) helped get their side close to the winning line but they ultimately fell just short when they were bowled out for 107 after 45.2 overs.
