Greenfield Arts hosted a brilliant preview event for yet another exceptional Open Art Exhibition in their gallery space this week. The exhibition boasts extraordinary local and regional talent, which includes artwork applying a range of specialist media from pen and paint to printing and collage, resulting in a delightful array of colour and texture. This year the applications were open to all manner of creatives so the exhibition is host to its first poetry and film display, something the team are very proud to promote. The exhibition, curated by our Arts and Community Centre Co-ordinator Sophie Lewis, has brought together a selection of artwork from the local area and has encouraged artists to select a small number of pieces for display. Our Cree volunteers did a fantastic job assisting with the installation, which offers each artist space to showcase their personal collection. The preview evening was a great success and a chance for artists and art lovers to meet and chat creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere.
Sophie said “It was a brilliant challenge for us to work with so many pieces whilst also incorporating something very different in the poetry and film displays, but it is lovely to see it all come together and to receive so many positive comments. The aim of the exhibition is to showcase the talent and creativity within everyone, not just professionals; so it is always great to meet the artists and find out the stories behind each piece. We have even Greenfield Arts College Open Art Exhibition added an interactive element which includes these stories for everyone to hear; something you will have to come down and see to experience.” The exhibition will run until Wednesday 26th April 2017 with events and workshops including a closing celebration on Wednesday 26th April where you can purchase items from local crafters, try your hand at some of the artistic practices, hear from the artists and listen to poetry readings. There will even be the chance to see how a full exhibition comes together, with advice and guidance on hanging as well as marketing from the Greenfield Gallery team.
