On 19th September, Woodham Academy, together with six local companies: Palram, Ebac, 3M, Finley Structures, Stiller Warehouse and Distribution and Tallent launched the Appreneticeship Awareness Challenge to raise the profile of apprenticeships as a possible career route.

This week, in the second stage of the Apprenticeship Awareness Challenge, Year 9 students have visited the company with whom they are working on the challenge.  The aim of the visit was to get a clearer picture of the company with which they have been linked for the duration of the programme.

Students had a tour of the company, seen the manufacturing process in action and have met current apprentices. The international career opportunities in multi-national companies have been considered. The students have all come back from their experience brimming with excitement and are really looking forward to the next stage of the competition.  The scheme has been funded through the GAMP committee.  Adam White, a GAMP representative, said ‘The visits are proving to be very well received by students. They are allowing students to consider post 16 opportunities and are providing a deep learning experience’.
