Rotary Great Aycliffe was proud to be able to donate two flags to Great Aycliffe Town Council, to mark the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE day.
President, Geoff Knapton, is seen presenting one of the flags to Town Clerk Dan Austin. In the background is a photograph of HMS Eskimo, which played a pivotal role defending Britain in the war. The last serving crew were granted the Freedom of Great Aycliffe in 1978.
One of the flags was flown alongside the war memorial at St. Clare’s Church, and the other next to the Council offices. When the celebrations have ended the flags will be retained in the Council Archives.
