Dear Sir,
How can the local Labour Party say they are protecting us from the Tories when it was a Labour Government who left us with so much debt from which we are still trying to recover?
Durham County Council first started selling off Care Homes and other establishments and blaming Tory cuts. Now they are claiming to save footbridges in Aycliffe when it was their responsibility to maintain them in the first instance.
Aycliffe residents are having to pay for street lighting on the A167 which we are already paying for through County Council rates.
Our 7 County Councillors are claiming to have saved the Leisure Centre and the Library when this development was already budgeted for long before they were even elected.
Are we getting value for money from the DCC? Not when you look around and see the state of roads and verges. Cuts do not seem to affect those on high salaries at County Hall and we could certainly save on Councillor allowances by cutting the large number of representatives we elect to County Hall.
It is time the Government sent in an Inspector to protect the interests of residents and the Labour group started working with opposition members to ensure fairness.
