Last half term saw Stephenson Way’s football teams bring to an end their successful respective league campaigns.
Stephenson Way’s “A” team competed in the Sedgefield School Sports Partnership’s Primary “Premier” league at Sedgefield Community College after winning a more localised league at Greenfield School earlier in the school year.
The league featured teams from further afield, who had also achieved success in earlier season competitions, meaning it would prove a tougher test for the side. However, the team adapted quickly and were able to go the entire season without tasting defeat. Ultimately, they were unfortunate to be kept in second place by Consett, who recorded one extra victory to claim first place.
Congratulations to the team for a fantastic undefeated season. Their second place finish in the Premier League meant that they placed 2nd overall out of over 30 schools who entered the SSP Football competition; a superb achievement.
Stephenson Way “B” team entered only their second competition as a side and showed great signs of improvement in their league fixtures.
The “B” side won their first ever fixture as a team during the league season and built on this by winning 3 further matches on their way to finishing 3rd in their competition, picking up bronze medals; a great achievement for such a new side in a competitive league and a much-deserved reward for the levels of improvement and teamwork shown throughout the year.
The respective success of both sides is great testament to the sporting progress of the school. Being able to field two sides of players dedicated to playing each week is an excellent sign, showing that sporting participation is very high in school. Both sides enjoyed fantastic seasons and are looking forward to competing in future competitions with their teams.
