Dear Sir,
Very few drivers seem to know how to use a roundabout correctly! Lots of drivers are using mini roundabouts as ‘Drive Over The Topabouts’ or, in the case of the roundabout at the junction with Central Avenue, St. Cuthberts Way and Stephenson Way, as a ‘Drive Down The Wrongsideabout’; not only is it dangerous it is also illegal.
This is the same for cars and van drivers, but also, so called professional, bus/coach and LGV drivers. Then there is the large island roundabouts, incorrect use of lanes, not staying in the lane, not indicating left to leave the roundabout. This causes confusion as some drivers approaching the roundabout think the other driver is continuing around the roundabout, or, in a recent situation, as I was indicating right to U-turn a large roundabout, when a driver pulled out, trying to blame me, in his words, “I thought you were turning right, so I pulled out.”
I explained, “If I had intended to leave the roundabout, I would have indicated left, not continued indicating right.”
Then there is school time, morning and afternoon, parents/guardians don’t care about their children’s safety, so obviously don’t care about others either. Stopping and parking anywhere they feel like, as long it is convenient for them and their child, or they don’t have to walk too far.
Driving standards are going down hill rapidly (excuse the pun) and no one seems to care anymore, except for themselves.
