A highly committed group of people from Newton Aycliffe are helping to provide for people suffering from cancer in Darlington and the surrounding area. ‘Make it Happen 2013’ are well on their way to raising more than £10,000 for St Therese’s hospice by completing 16 gruelling challenges.
Last weekend the team, led by Alison Dixon from School Aycliffe, completed the National 3 Peaks Challenge scaling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just under 30 hours. The team, battered and weather beaten returned home on Sunday to continue the planning for the remainder of their events.
Alison, a Subject Leader for Performing Arts at Greenfield College lost her mum to bowel cancer in November last year and vowed to help others suffering from cancer. ‘I wanted to set up ‘Make it Happen 2013 to repay St Therese’s for their fabulous care of my mum.
At the same time as hopefully raising a massive amount of money, organising and taking part in these events is helping our family as part of the healing process and putting a smile on our faces.’
So far, the team have completed the Harewood House 10k run, Manchester 10K run, Aycliffe 10k, The 150 mile C2C bike ride, Midnight Ladies Walk and the National 3 Peak Challenge.
More than 30 friends, family and colleagues of Alison are part of this fantastic team and they are all instrumental in the planning of the remaining events including a golf day, an evening of live entertainment, the Kielder Marathon, Hadrian’s Wall walk, a charity auction and the a gala ball to celebrate their phenomenal achievement.
