Heighington U11 7 v Durham Tigers U11 1
Heighington were looking to bounce back, from last week’s defeat, but we seemed to be still in bed when the game kicked off. They quickly found themselves 1-0 down with some questionable passing, ,squandered chances, disjointed defending and nervous goalkeeping on display. Jack settled the nerves with a beautiful free kick into the top corner and Jonah put us ahead after getting his head on the end of a nice corner from Lucas. Half time 2-1 up, by the skin of our teeth.
However, credit to the lads for the approach they took in the 2nd half and quickly looked back to something like their best. A flurry of goals followed with Jonah getting his hat trick, James finding a well earned net, Lucas adding to his tally and Will rounding off the scoring at the death. Lots of positives to take away from this game but we know they can play a lot better than we played today. Two very tough games in the next fortnight for these boys, we will not get away with playing one good half and taking 15 minutes to wake up.
However, well done to our lads, they showed strength and character to get through this one and kept their heads up when the chips were down. We looked more like a team in the second half once we settled down.
MOTM: Jonah Wade, superb today with a strong midfield display and 3 goals to boot. Improving week on week and plays with a smile. MOTM: Bruno Clack, a rare game without a goal today but looked dangerous every time he had the ball. Relentless on the wing supplying many assists with his fantastic scope of passing.
Many thanks to our fantastic sponsors SASH Hardware, Chris Harper.
Heighington U13’s 3 v Deerness Valley 0
Heighington deservedly progressed to the semi final of the League Cup with a hard fought win over a physically strong Deerness Valley. The first half was a real arm wrestle with neither side creating any clear cut chances. The Heighington defence of Jensley M, William L, Joel E, Olly W and keeper Harry I were in mean form and dealt superbly with the lively Deerness strikers, snuffling out every attack effectively. In midfield Jude B, Nic C, Will M and Will B provided energy and tenacity both in protecting the rear guard whilst providing service to wide men Oliver W, Olly Y and Lennon M. Upfront Dan C, Teddy B and Jack B were a constant menace to the physically imposing Deerness defence. As the sides changed ends at half time the game remained in the balance. Half time: Heighington 0 – Deerness Valley 0.
Immediately after the turn around the Heighington boys were on the front foot responding to the advice of coaches Mike and Jamie. Several chances went begging before Will B opened the scoring, unleashing another right foot rocket to add to his impressive collection for the season. A second soon followed when a foul on Nic C led to a free kick 35 yards out. Undeterred, Will B struck the ball crisply from his hammer of a right foot, the keeper could only parry and Jude B gleefully obliged to tap in to the open goal. It was all Heighington now and following fine work from Jack B, striker Dan C scored from close range to confirm Heighington’s passage into the semi finals.
MOTM: Will Barker.
It really was a close run thing for this award as both new signing Joel E and Jensley M were superb in defence but Will deservedly wins the accolade, not just because of his attacking prowess, with a goal and an assist, but also because of his work rate in an unfamiliar position. He really was immense in a fantastic team performance.
Both coaches were delighted with the attitude and effort of all the players today. They all stood up and displayed the team spirit that has seen them through so many games this season. A massive well done to our opposition today. It was a terrific contest and the opening goal was always going to be crucial.
Finally, thanks to all the parents for their great support and to our sponsors Fracks Transport Ltd.
