We are sad to record the death of local well known footballer Ian Mohan who died suddenly at the age of 56 after a training session in the Leisure Centre.
Ian played for a number of local teams including West Auckland and Spennymoor and the chairman there said: “Ian was a gem, a great player and a lovely man”.
Ian was born in Sedgefield and moved to Aycliffe with his parents to attend Sugar Hill and Milton Hall Schools. He started his working career as a Joiner, moving to Talents and then into employment with various construction companies.
He was married to Lynn for 33 years and they have three daughters, Rachelle, Kathleen and Carol with grandchildren Rian, Codey and Aaron.
Ian loved playing football and enjoyed watching all sport as a spectator. He also enjoyed family holidays and music, in particular Motown and The Drifters.
Lynn told Newton News “Ian was someone you wanted to spend your life with – no words can describe the effect he had on our lives”.
