Forget the weather and dress up warm,
Stay indoors, there could be a storm.
Put another log onto the fire,
Have a steaming hot chocolate if that’s what you desire.
Maybe some mulled wine as you dress the tree,
And laugh at the Angel you made when you were three.
Her dress is from a scrap of your old party dress,
And you painted a sweet smile on her face.
There are also a few baubles from some of your travels,
Looking at each one and a memory unravels.
The shiny apple came from New York,
Just before Christmas, when the city’s energy uncorks.
The very old Santa stands proud and straight,
His beard’s a bit sparse now, a new one we’ll make.
In so many homes Christmas trees shine bright,
They cheer up the darkness on cold festive nights,
Some may be perfect with matching shiny spheres,
Others are rustic, reflecting family memories and happy tears.
Others standing so tall that they skim the ceiling,
Or maybe small and simple but decorated with love and great feeling.
As you look at the trees lighting up your street,
Let’s hope they bring neighbourly friendship, to make Christmas complete.
A symbol of hope in a world that does feels gloom,
May we have the Peace on Earth that we pray for soon.
