The Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Mrs. Barbara Clare, attended the War Memorial outside St. Clare’s Church on Monday, 24th June 2013 at 11 a.m. to raise a flag on behalf of the Town to mark the beginning of ‘Armed Forces Week’. The Mayor was assisted by Officers from 102 Battalion (REME). Standard Bearers from the Royal British Legion were present together with members from the Club.
The bagpipes were played by PSB Gary Dodd, during the short Service which was conducted by representatives of ‘Churches Together’, the Revd. Julie Wing from St. Clare’s Church, Methodist Preachers, Graham and Emma Morgan and Pastor Geoff Walvin from the Harvest Church. Councillors and members of the public were also present.
