Six Aycliffe families have come forward to join the new Acorns Fostering Service in recent weeks.
Local company Acorn Care runs children’s homes, an independent living project and a foster care service in the Durham, Darlington, Teesside and North Yorkshire areas.  The new fostering service is still keen to talk to people interested in offering short or long term homes for children and young people who cannot live with their own families.  Foster placements can be long or short term and children from babies to older teenager’s need people who can offer them the space and support they need to grow and thrive.  Placements are particularly needed for children or young people who have had difficulties and who will need extra support to get back on track.  This could be babies coming from hospital and waiting for adoption, children with disabilities or behavioural problems, young mothers with their babies or older teenagers.  There is also a need for people who could look after a group of brothers and sisters to enable them to stay together.  If you have experience of caring for children or young people – either your own, or in a work setting and you could see yourself in the fostering role, please contact The Acorns Fostering Service today. Carers can be young or old, single or couples, with or without your own children and you do not have to have special qualifications.  What matters is the ability to see a child or young person’s point of view and help each individual to develop.  You do need a spare room and the main carer needs to be available to attend training, meetings etc and support the child or young person full time.  As you would expect there are a lot of checks, full training and a realistic payments and allowances package.  Why not find out more and help the Acorns give local youngsters the chances and opportunities they deserve?
