ACORN Community Association had a super day out at Beamish on Saturday 18th September. It has been a couple of years since our last visit and it is amazing how the popular museum is developing new exhibits, from coach and horses rides to a new 1950s display which is currently being built.
Always a brilliant day out, we found it virtually impossible to take everything in on a day visit, highlights included, fairground, pit village complete with fish and chip shop, community hall featuring, would you believe, a skiffle band, the farm with pig and chickens and, one of my favourites, the farmhouse where volunteers were busy making a clipping mat.
Of course no visit to Beamish is complete without a ride on a tram and this was no exception, sadly not everyone is mobile but staff went out of their way to assist and be as helpful as possible.
ACORN Community Association are already organising trips to York on Sunday 17th Oct., £8 per person and Leeds for Saturday 11th Dec., £8. We would like to thank friends old and new for joining us and The National Lottery for funding us.
Coach trips through ACORN are available to Newton Aycliffe area residents but first chance of seats go to attendees of our meetings held on the second Thursday of every month from 6pm in the upstairs lounge of the Phoenix Club.
Events and trips are held throughout the year with our next event being a Halloween Party to be held at Moore Lane Sports Club on Saturday 30th October from 5.30pm, priced at £3 per ticket which includes a raffle ticket. This Spooktacular Halloween event is sponsored by GAMP through a neighbourhood budget supported by Cllr Eddy Adam, Cllr Jim Atkinson, Cllr Neville Jones and Cllr Ken Robson.
In attendance will be our Town Mayor, Sandra Haigh, who will be thrilled to meet parents and children alike. Tickets can be purchased from the Town Council offices, the Sports Club, Ken Robson tel 07443 046804, limited numbers, so get yours quickly.
