Youngsters at Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School are starting their school day with a free healthy breakfast at school thanks to a partnership with the charity, Magic Breakfast. They are one of 1,775 schools nationwide to be included in the National School Breakfast Programme, which is funded by the Department for Education.

As pupils arrive at school, they can choose to take a freshly toasted bagel as they head to their seats for their early morning reading session. This means that every child in Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School has the opportunity to enjoy a high quality, nourishing breakfast before school starts, providing them with a great start to the day and ready to enjoy their learning when school begins. Independent research has shown that eating a healthy breakfast has a direct link with improving educational outcomes for children.

Head of School, Mr Jones, explains, ‘There are a variety of reasons why some of our children arrive at school without having eaten breakfast. This initiative ensures that all children have the opportunity to have something nourishing to eat before they start their busy day.’

The Founder of Magic Breakfast, Carmel McConnell, MBE, adds: “It is a great privilege to be able to help schools set up and run healthy breakfast provision for their pupils. Magic Breakfast sends many thanks to all the schools and local authorities we are working with for their energy and support in ensuring that no child starts their school day too hungry or malnourished to learn. Our sincere thanks too to the charity’s funders, food and delivery partners who are making it possible for us to deliver breakfasts to children in schools like Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School every school day.”
