Tony and Elaine Harrop are celebrating a remarkable 60th wedding anniversary, marking decades of love, commitment and family life that began in Hull when they wed on 26th March 1966.
The couple first met on a night out with friends in their home town, a chance encounter that would go on to shape the rest of their lives. At the time, Tony was working as a taxi driver, while Elaine was employed at Needlers Chocolates. From those early days, their bond grew steadily, built on shared values and a deep understanding of one another.
In 1982, Tony and Elaine made the move to Newton Aycliffe, where they would lay down roots and build both a successful business and a thriving family life. Over the years, they became well known locally as the dedicated directors of Workshop Supplies, a role they both have retired from.
Family has always been at the heart of their story. Together, they have raised four children and are now proud grandparents to thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Much of their time today is happily spent supporting the younger generations, particularly by following their many sporting activities.
To mark their special anniversary, a celebration is being held at the Oakleaf Sports Centre, bringing together family and friends to honour the couple’s enduring partnership.
When asked the secret to a long and happy marriage, Tony and Elaine offer simple but heartfelt advice: always be there for each other – whether you agree or not.
Their story is one of lasting love, shared success, and a family legacy that continues to grow with each passing year.

Congratulations
