Get online week is the biggest digital inclusion campaign in the UK promoting how the internet can make lives easier. From 12-16 October events will be taking place across the country in registered online and community centres.
In support of get online week, homes and communities business livin will be offering the following drop in sessions:
Tuesday 13 October, 9.30am-2.00pm at Number 66, High Street, West Cornforth
Thursday 15 October 1.00pm-4.00pm at Foundations, Shildon
Friday 16 October 9.30am-2.00pm at The Hub of Wishes, Silverdale House, Newton Aycliffe
The sessions will be run by Digital Me volunteers from local communities. Digital Me is a free service that provides digital support and training in online basic skills to help use the internet on a computer, smartphone or tablet.
The sessions are aimed at all age groups and all abilities and will offer training, tips and advice on getting online, from making savings on Christmas shopping, to contacting friends and relatives abroad, or making sure you are getting the best from online services.
Vicky Miller, community regeneration manager said “the Digital Me service offers vital digital support to those who need a hand making the most of online services and deals. It offers free of charge support and advice in the home and in local community centres. From livin’s perspective it gives our tenants and communities the best possible skills to manage their finances, their home and their social lives”.
Digital Me is currently recruiting onto the Digital Skills Foundation, which is a learning pathway that gives participants an ICT qualification, and hands on job experience. This is an excellent opportunity and has a 30% success rate in helping participants gain employment.
