Dear Sir,
It has now been announced that the TSB is to close 70 of its branches, one being in Newton Aycliffe, on the 3rd May 2022. This will mean that Newton Aycliffe will not have a main bank on the Town.
The case TSB use is that the number of customers utilising online banking services have increased. TSB said it will close more branches as use by customers ‘declines further’ and more people are choosing to bank digitally.
What the TSB are failing to realise is that Newton Aycliffe as lots of residents that are elderly and don’t have access to the internet. Perhaps the people who are affected should contact the MP to ask him to contact TSB and leave Newton Aycliffe open. Perhaps residents could even contact the Councillors on Durham County to do some lobbying of TSB, didn’t the Lib / Dems put out information that they plan to regenerate the Town Centre. Closing down Banks is not a good starting point, also DCC want your views on the regeneration of the Town Centre but if you don’t have access to a computer then that idea will be futile.
Whilst this will not affect me, I am, however, concerned about other people, in particular the older age group and people who are not IT ready for these changes.
Vince Crosby
