2026 sees the 40th anniversary of Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club. Reformed in 1986, after the previous club had been dissolved a couple of year earlier, the Club initially entered the Darlington and District League where they found a fair amount of success, achieving the league and cup double in 1999, before moving to the North East Durham League in 2000.
In 2013, after a few years of planning, the Club made the massive move to the North Yorkshire and South Durham League, a premier league and one of the best grassroots leagues in the country, where they continue to play.
From humble beginnings, the Club now field two senior men’s teams, two senior women’s teams and five junior teams. The new season starts on Saturday 18th April when the first team entertain Yarm while the second team travel to Guisborough.
In preparation for the new season, the Club have strengthened their senior ranks with Adam Gittins returning after a spell at Norton and Patrick Howe indicating that he will be available to play on a more regular basis, after missing games since his move to Leeds. One outgoing player is Matthew Greaves, who has decided to move.
As part on the 40th anniversary, the Club will be holding a night of celebration on Saturday 13th June and would like to see as many players and ex players plus sponsors and supporters, at the event. Further details can be found on the Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club Facebook page or by contacting one of the Club officials.
