Thank you to everyone who took the time to come and visit me at the petting zoo last Saturday, this Rescue did well with sales and donations. Also thank you to the Neville Parade Community Centre Ladies Group for having myself and Mitzi to visit them, Mitzi, as usual, was a star. Thanks also go to June, Lori, Bev, Valerie and everyone who has purchased a raffle ticket, this will be drawn this weekend, I have some lovely prizes, good luck everyone, winners will be contacted.
Over the last week I have admitted two very small Aycliffe hoggies, Shelley and Molly, both of these little ones have hidden illnesses but because they got to me quickly they are both ok and responding to treatment, long may it continue. Molly’s finders Jill, Mike and Josy have also contributed, thank you.
From the 1st May till the 7th May it’s hedgehog awareness week, we need everyone to make some small hoggie wishes come true by making a hedgehog highway in your fence, ponds safe, ditch pesticides, offer meaty cat or dog food, build a log pile, leave dishes of water out, supply a hedgehog house and, finally, move sports netting up a few inches so they don’t get caught in them, these small gestures make a difference to these poor souls who have a dreadfully challenging existence.
Also, finally, if you see a hedgehog out during the day please get him or her help immediately, they shouldn’t be out in the day, also to deliberately harm a hedgehog is classed as a wildlife crime, which can result in prosecution.
Tip of the Week: The British Hedgehog Preservation Society can be reached on 01584 890801. I am on Facebook: Prickly Haven Hedgehog Hotel or email pricklyhaven@yahoo.com
