The Annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service had to be cancelled this year due to Covid-19 regulations, with everyone being asked to ‘Remember at Home’.

The Revd. Jeff Anderson presided over a small wreath laying ceremony and observance of the Two Minutes Silence outside of St. Clare’s Church and War Memorial. A representative from Aycliffe & Brancepeth Band carried out the Bugling of the ‘Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’.

Wreaths were laid by representatives of the Lord Lieutenant’s Office, Dame Dela Smith DBE DL, our Member of Parliament, Paul Howell, the Deputy Mayor of Great Aycliffe Councillor Wendy Hillary and a representative of Durham County Council, Councillor Jim Atkinson.

Organisations and members of the public, who usually lay a wreath at the War Memorial, were asked to lay their wreath at leisure on the afternoon, in order to keep to social distancing regulations.

St. Clare’s Church live streamed the event on their ‘Parish of Great Aycliffe’ site.
