Youngsters attending pop-up events at Play Café have been enjoying games and sports skills with David Curry, a Physical Activity Officer, employed by Durham County Council’s Culture and Sport Service.

David usually works in schools in the east of the county and during the summer holiday, Play Café has been really fortunate to have him work with the children for a few sessions.

After 45 minutes of very active play, based on a sports programme developed especially for young children, everyone is ready for their lunch.

The Café has been offering our special Meal Deal Lunches, where there is a choice of freshly made sandwiches, crisps, fruit, biscuits and cake which are collected in a white paper lunch bag.

No one is left out, as before he goes to his next sports session, David collects his Meal Deal too.

A big thank you to David and to Joanne Heron for setting up this joint venture for the families we support, and to The Big Club for hosting the activity.

Play Café receives funding from our seven County Councillors through GAMP, as well as help from TESCO, Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club, County Durham Food Bank and The Big Club. It is a project to offer support to families at risk of hunger during the long school holidays.
