Terence Lawson

Terence, generally known as Terry, died on 7th June 2021, in his 86th year, peacefully at home in the arms of his loving wife Linda, after a short illness bravely fought with dignity. Terry and Linda were married in 2003 and spent 18 wonderful years devoted to each other.

Terry was born in West Hartlepool, then lived in Middlesbrough, but moved to School Aycliffe in the early 1970’s where he remained. He began teaching music in schools in the 1960’s, spending many years and finishing his teaching career as head of music at King James I School in Bishop Auckland. After taking early retirement, he continued to teach privately from home, both piano, singing and guitar and often had a waiting list of pupils wanting lessons. In recent years he had a reduced pupil base but continued with some piano teaching right up until May this year!

In addition to his teaching, he was very active in amateur dramatics around the area, both ‘treading the boards’ and wielding the baton in the orchestra pit.

He was very dedicated to his teaching and ‘bringing out the best’ in everyone, always encouraging his pupils to believe in themselves. The profound effect he has had on so many people’s lives is most apparent in the cards, emails and messages the family have received and it is comforting to know he was so highly regarded.

He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends and especially his loving wife Linda.
