A Special Commemoration Service was held at St. Clare’s Church Newton Aycliffe to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday 18th September.
The Deputy Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Neville Jones, read out the Accession Proclamation and there followed a lovely service conducted by Rev. Canon Ann Anderson, Rev. Jeff Anderson, Rev. Stephanie Price, Rev. Daniel Hudson and L.L.M Eileen Bowman.
With readings by the Town Clerk, Councillor Jed Hillary, and the Deputy Mayor, it was an opportunity for residents to join together to reflect on the late Queen’s remarkable life.
The service ended with a rousing rendition of ‘God Save the King’ and many who attended met for refreshments in the church hall afterwards.
Thank you to everyone who came along to mark this occasion.
Town Council staff will be removing the bouquets from outside the church from Friday 23rd September and all cards will be retained at the Council offices for posterity.
