The Tamla All Stars are a four piece band who deliver powerful covers of classic Motown and Northern Soul records. All members of the band grew up in the local area – Sax Player Alan Thompson specifically remembers the Newton Aycliffe Soul Scene that was vibrant in the mid to late 1970s.
With a strong soul influenced base, and reinterpretations of songs by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield and Jackie Wilson, the band deliver a set of guaranteed floor fillers, so put on your dancing shoes!
Growling sax and vocals, over funky guitar, melodic bass and in-the-pocket drums! This band really do know what they’re doing, and they do it very well. Soul music. ‘How sweet it is’.
On Sunday afternoon 10th May from 4.00pm until 6.00pm on the Steve and Cols Folk Rock show on Aycliffe Radio, the band are right here in the studio playing live songs and talking about growing up and influences.
The Tamla All Stars play the Stockton Georgian Theatre on Saturday 23rd May, tickets £15.
Imagine The Jam playing soul music with a sax player and you start to get the picture.
On local DAB Channels as Aycliffe_Radio, or listen live on the link below Sunday afternoons 4pm-6pm.
