Anthea Enzor, Tower (Bell) Captain has been ringing bells for 50 years. During a recent catch up at the Wednesday evening practice, Anthea gave an update on how training to ring has taken a step forward.
A teaching centre has been established at Holy Trinity Church, Darlington. Why there? It was explained that the bells are quite easy to ring, therefore all beginners are referred to Holy Trinity to start their training. Sessions take place Monday evening, Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, but must be booked with Anthea. Email address below.
Anthea described how bell ringing keeps you fit and active, body and brain, and is also a social group with support on many levels. One example would be sharing skills, which means travelling to other churches in the area, or even further afield, to assist at special events or simply for a different experience.
The Heighington group are in St. Michael’s Church bell tower ringing Monday mornings, Wednesday evenings 7pm – 8pm with more advanced ringers 8pm – 9pm and, of course, Sunday morning services. Drop Anthea an email about how to get involved with learning the art of bellringing or pick up where you left off years ago. You won’t regret it.
