The Lifeline Community Action Community Hub in Newton Aycliffe Town Centre continues to make significant strides. Designed to bring people together, foster collaboration, and provide a central space for essential services, the Hub is rapidly approaching completion.
We are delighted to announce that the wait is almost over. In the coming weeks, we expect to have full access to the unit, ready for setup and preparation. We are planning a soft launch on 1st September 2025, with the official opening set for Autumn.
As part of this launch, new Lifeline Community Action services will be introduced, including a Community Pantry, People’s Café and Kitchen, and new peer support groups tailored to the needs of our local community. These services aim to tackle food insecurity, offer a welcoming space to connect and provide targeted, accessible support.
Our existing projects will continue as normal and we’re also excited to welcome partner organisations who will deliver a range of additional services, to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
We’ll also be recruiting new volunteers soon and encourage anyone interested in getting involved to keep an eye on our channels for upcoming opportunities.
Pauline Chambers, Executive Business Coordinator at Lifeline Community Action, noted that the development of the Hub has been greatly supported by a substantial long-term financial investment from the landlord, which has enabled significant upgrades to the Beveridge Way property, along with the granting of a 10-year lease.
In total, over £1 million has been raised to redevelop the building, thanks to generous support from the landlord, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and the National Lottery. Durham County Council provided valuable support in securing funding for the project. We are incredibly grateful to the many local businesses and organisations who have donated goods and services free of charge, their contributions have been vital in bringing this vision to life.
Centrally located in the heart of Newton Aycliffe Town Centre, the Hub will offer a welcoming and accessible space for individuals to connect with vital services and support, while also strengthening community ties and encouraging active engagement.
The concept of a Community Hub emerged in 2022, when eleven community and voluntary organisations came together in response to a clearly expressed local need. Now, in 2025, that vision is becoming a reality.
