Over the last few weeks the ‘Friends of Woodham Burn’ group have been working hard behind the scenes to spring back in to action after Covid.
As a school we are raising funds to provide children of all ages with a valuable outdoor space, with the view to providing something that would interest and engage every single one of the children not only in school, but reaching out to the wider community through our Out of School Club.
Behind the scenes, the group have started reaching out for help, letters and emails have started to make their way out and we have so far had a lovely response. So much so, that we are running an amazing ‘Launch Raffle’.
Special thanks must go to Middlesbrough Football Club, The Majestic Theatre Darlington, Cobblers Hall Public House Newton Aycliffe, The Candyman Sunderland, and the amazing charity ‘Knit for Peace’, for donating prizes for our launch raffle.
‘Knit for Peace’ contacted us following an email to see if they could provide us with some raffle prizes or even wool, that some of our talented parents could make prizes with. It was to our great surprise when we were contacted by Dame Hilary Blume, the Founder/Director of the Charities Advisory Trust. Dame Hilary had taken the time to read our email and she had researched the school. She felt that they could offer to not only provide us with raffle prizes, but with items that have been knitted and crocheted by amazing people across the UK.
During Whit week the parcels arrived and all 17 boxes were transported into school for the children to help unbox.
The children enjoyed the activity and are very much looking forward to being able to help with fundraising to create an outdoor space to be proud of.
Should you feel that you could help by donating raffle prizes, equipment for use in our outdoor space, or would like to know more about our plans to see if/where you could help, then you can contact Mr. Damian Sparrow (Head of School – woodhamburn@durhamlearning.net) or Mrs. Caroline Catmull (Friends of Woodham Burn – c.catmull500@thearchwayfederation.co.uk) via email or on 01325 300230.
