Rare Rockets, shortlisted in the Newcomer of the Year Category at the 2022 Making Your Mark Awards, are a team of experienced, friendly, communications professionals who work with deaf, hearing and professional communities. Paul Howell, Member of Parliament for Sedgefield, recently met up with the team at their County Durham Incubation Centre, based in Newton Aycliffe.
Paul Howell MP said: “The team at Rare Rockets gave me a warm welcome and many insights into how to encourage collaboration and understanding across all sectors of language interaction, community support, training and resources.
“Whether it’s letting hearing people know the simple things they can do to improve communication or supporting a deaf person build up confidence in their communication skills with members of the hearing community. The support of Outreach Support Workers helps everyone to find improved ways to work together.”
Craig Jones, CEO of Rare Rockets, said: “It was an absolute pleasure meeting Paul Howell MP. I was so proud to introduce my team of both Deaf and Hearing staff, demonstrating how collaboratively we work both bilingually and biculturally.
During our business lunch meeting, colleagues and I explained the structure; how Rare Rockets operates, the community we serve, who we work in alliance with, the locality area across County Durham, Tees Valley and North Yorkshire, and the vision of our organisation. Paul’s attention to detail was amazing throughout all our discussions and the interest he showed in learning how we deliver the ever-thriving BSL Interpreting Service, PA Community Support and the BSL Training.
We look forward in working together with Paul from hereon in, exploring and soaring to new heights not only here in the North East and nationally too.”
