A well-known face in Newton Aycliffe’s community, Olivia Angus, has celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Originally from Kibblesworth, Olivia moved to Newton Aycliffe in 1997 and has since become an active and cherished member of the town. A retired market researcher, she is mother to two daughters, Karen and Tracey, grandmother to two grandchildren, and a proud great-grandmother to one great-grandson.
Olivia marked her milestone birthday in style. Her granddaughter organised a special family tea to celebrate the occasion, while Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, where Olivia has attended Aquafit classes twice a week for the past 25 years, hosted a Prosecco and cake celebration after her regular session.
A lifelong lover of golf, and with a keen mind, Olivia credits her long and happy life to “keeping your mind active, being kind and helping others.”
She certainly lives by those words, participating in U3A activities including Scrabble, mahjong, backgammon and sudoku. A devoted reader, she often finishes a book a day and, before the pandemic, volunteered with the local library, delivering books to housebound residents and helping children with their reading in schools.
Having lived in Italy and Spain, Olivia brings a zest for life and a warm spirit that continue to inspire everyone who knows her. Her friends and family describe her as a ‘spirited competitor with a love of life’, and the Newton Aycliffe community joins them in wishing Olivia many more years of happiness and good health.
