After an immensely satisfying day of volunteering at Heighington Station on 26th September for the bicentenary celebration journey of Locomotion No 1, Rotary Newton Aycliffe has joined the ‘Friends of the Stockton & Darlington Railway’ as a Corporate Member and looks forward to joining in with future events.
As the ‘Friends’ move forward with the restoration of Heighington Station, partnership working, as mentioned above, is key. This was evidenced again recently when Hitachi’s legal team, on a visit to the region, turned out in force to assist with clearing the site of the coal cells at Heighington Station. This will allow further investigation and restoration of the area as the work continues in the goods yard. Many thanks to all those who turned out, including volunteers from the ‘Friends’ and Tim Hedley-Jones from the Railway Heritage Trust.
