Coach and parents boarded an airplane at Gatwick airport at 6.30am on Thursday 16th October to travel to Montenegro to support their, not so little, girl in the Under 15’s European Boxing Championships and the England Boxing Team.
Emily Denham, nicknamed ‘Beast’ by Aycliffe Boxing Club members, boxed the Spanish champion in the quarter final and won by unanimous decision and moved on to the semi final where she met the Polish champion, winning that bout unanimously.
On Saturday 25th October was the final for the Gold Medal – Emily was not going to let this one go the wrong way, after giving the Romanian champion an eight second standing count at the end of the first round, Emily started the second round the same way that she finished the first and the referee stopped the contest to save the Romanian girl from taking more punishment.
