Amy Thompson, a student at Carmel College Sixth Form, is preparing for the experience of a lifetime – a volunteer trip to Iquitos, Peru, in July 2026. As part of the college’s mission project, Amy and her fellow students will help build two new classrooms and a chapel, as well as spend time volunteering at a girls’ orphanage in the local community.
To make this journey possible, Amy is undertaking an ambitious fundraising challenge: a 24-hour walk covering 51 miles from Bamburgh Castle to Tynemouth Castle. The challenge will test both her endurance and determination as she raises funds to support her travel and the vital work being done to help children living in deprived conditions in Peru.
Amy said: “I’m really passionate about making a difference for the children in Iquitos. This project will give them access to better education and a safe place to learn and grow. I’d be so grateful for any support to help me reach my fundraising goal.”
Amy is asking the local community to support her by sharing her story and donating via her JustGiving page:

Every contribution, no matter how small, will help Amy take one step closer to making a lasting impact in Peru.
