Visitors to the OakLeaf Sports Complex will notice a fresh new look and improved playing surfaces following a programme of refurbishment works carried out during the summer months.
The investment, undertaken during a quieter period for the facility, included the complete re-sanding, re-sealing and re-lining of both the Sports Hall and Squash Court floors. These specialist maintenance works are essential in preserving the quality and longevity of the playing surfaces, while ensuring they continue to provide safe, high-quality facilities for users of all ages.
In addition to the floor refurbishment, both areas received an extensive deep clean, helping to enhance the overall appearance and environment of the complex. The Sports Hall has also been fully repainted, giving the space a brighter, cleaner and more welcoming feel for sports clubs, schools, community groups and casual users.
The refurbishment forms part of Great Aycliffe Town Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining its leisure assets and delivering accessible, affordable and high-quality sporting opportunities for local residents. The work supports the aims set out within the Oak Leaf Sports Complex – 2026/27 Service Plan, which focuses on continual improvement, protecting Council assets and providing excellent leisure facilities for the community.
“We are delighted with the improvements that have been completed over the summer. The Sports Hall and Squash Courts are among the most heavily used facilities within the complex, so it is important that we continue to invest in their upkeep and presentation. The refurbished floors, deep cleaning and redecoration have significantly enhanced the customer experience, and we look forward to welcoming users back for the new season.”
OakLeaf Sports Complex Manager, Andrew Clark
One regular OakLeaf customer commented: “The difference is immediately noticeable. The Sports Hall looks brighter and fresher, and the playing surfaces feel excellent. It’s great to see the Council continuing to invest in facilities that are so important to local clubs, groups and families.”
The OakLeaf Sports Complex remains one of the town’s premier leisure destinations, offering a wide range of activities including football, badminton, pickleball, bowls, table tennis and squash. The refurbished facilities will help ensure the complex continues to provide an excellent environment for participation, performance and enjoyment.
