A team of Newtonians travelled to Newcastle this October to compete in the North East BJJ 24/7 Competition – and delivered outstanding performances!
Representing Next Gen Jiu Jitsu, under black belt John Paul Cockerill and coach Dave Cunliffe, competitors Izzy Cockerill, Lucas Cunliffe, and Oliver Spence all brought home medals after a day of impressive displays on the mats.
Izzy Cockerill stepped up to a more advanced division, securing both gold and silver with a fantastic performance that earned her a well-deserved place on the podium.
Lucas Cunliffe delivered a clinical display, winning against four tough opponents and submitting three of them to take home double gold in both the Gi and No-Gi categories.
Oliver Spence, competing for only the second time, put on an incredible performance – winning five matches and claiming gold in both of his divisions.
The club is immensely proud of the team’s achievements and is looking forward to an exciting few months ahead in the UK competition circuit.
