Bruce and Ann Ross celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 23rd August.
Both were born in Redcar, North Yorkshire, and met at a church dance in their home town – Bruce doesn’t dance, but walked Ann home.
When the couple met, Ann worked for the Halifax as a clerk and Bruce was starting his career in the police force. Ann retired from the Halifax bank in Redcar after being employed there most of her working life,
Bruce retired from Cleveland police as a sergeant.
The couple moved to Newton Aycliffe in 2003 and enjoy their individual hobbies; Ann loves her keep fit class, knitting and walking their pup, Bertie. Bruce was a keen sportsman, involved in cricket and rugby, even representing the police force in rugby. He is also a budgie fancier and judge for many years.
Bruce and Ann have three children; Christine, Stuart and Keith as well as five grandchildren; Callum, Connor, Melissa, James and Ella.
The whole family got together from around the country to celebrate the milestone anniversary with a meal and cake.
Ann says “I think time just flies by and then you reach the number, there’s nothing special, each marriage is different as are the people in it.”
Cllr Ken Robson, Mayor of Great Aycliffe, and his consort, visited the couple at their home on their anniversary to present a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the town council.
Ken said “It is absolutely wonderful to be able to help celebrate the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of Bruce and Ann Ross as Mayor and Mayoress on behalf of Great Aycliffe Town Council. A fantastic couple and we wish them all the best for their future.”
