Dear Sir,
I am not a proponent of Aycliffe Town Council, but, when they get things right they should be praised and not criticised by anonymous correspondents.
There appears to be a minority of latent misanthropists and doomsdayers who are determined to seek the closure of the OakLeaf Sports Complex and thereby ruin the enjoyment of many residents.
In my opinion the OakLeaf provides outstanding value for money and encourages people of all ages to ‘keep fit’ and participate in a wide variety of sports and leisure activities, you simply can’t put a price on the health benefits and pleasure it brings.
What other town council has such a multifunctional facility with an array of amenities like eleven-a-side football, a running track, a golf practice range, an 18 hole golf course, squash courts, badminton courts, bowling rinks, table tennis and five-a-side football etc., this, along with a reasonably sized function room and a bar that serves a wide selection of drinks/food (all at competitive rates) with staff that are always cheerful and friendly.
Let’s all appreciate exactly what we’ve got and don’t try to fix something that isn’t broken, remember ‘when it’s gone, it’s gone’.
Regards,
Derreck Pinkney,
Haselrigg Close.
