Employer-led open event gives school leavers a unique chance to meet industry leaders and explore exceptional apprenticeship pathways.
South West Durham Training (SWDT), part of the Bishop Auckland College Group, is inviting young people, parents, and the local community, to its Employer Led Open Event on Tuesday 18th November from 5:00pm to 7:30pm.
Based on Aycliffe Business Park in Newton Aycliffe, SWDT is a leading Engineering and Plumbing Training Centre with a proud history of supporting skills development across the North East. The upcoming event will offer school leavers an excellent opportunity to meet and speak directly with employers from both the engineering and plumbing sectors – gaining invaluable insight into real career opportunities in these vital industries.
Attendees will be able to explore the wide range of progression pathways available at SWDT, including apprenticeships and higher education routes. Through strong collaborations with major industry players such as GSK, Cummins, CAW Ingredients and Wilhelmsen, SWDT ensures its learners are equipped with the skills employers truly need, opening doors to rewarding and sustainable careers.
Beyond technical training, SWDT is deeply committed to community engagement and skills development. Recent student projects have included contributions to the ‘Pointless Project’, connected to the Knife Angel’s visit to Newton Aycliffe Town Centre in collaboration with Durham Constabulary. SWDT have delivered STEM sessions in local primary and secondary schools as part of the North East Local Skills Improvement Fund – helping to inspire future generations and address the region’s skills gap.
With a history dating back decades, SWDT has continued to evolve and grow to meet modern industry demands. Recent investments include cutting-edge technology such as a CNC Press Brake, CNC Plasma Cutter, Wire Eroder, VR Welding Kit, Industry 4.0 Smart Factories and a FARO Arm, ensuring learners train in an environment that mirrors today’s advanced engineering workplaces.
As part of the Bishop Auckland College Group, SWDT plays a pivotal role in supporting sustainable economic growth within the local community, offering high-quality training that benefits both learners and employers alike.
