South West Durham REME Association had the pleasure of presenting a plaque to the Veterans Community & Enterprise Centre (CIC) based at the IES Centre, Newton Aycliffe (next to the Blue Bridge).
The presentation was made by Philip Rolfe, President of the Association, to Chris Morgan, the Centre Director, with members of the Association in attendance.
A few South West Durham REME Association members have attended the centre to do a variety of practical skills at the various workshops available. The centre offers 3D printing, a VR experience, wood working with lathe turns and making models, also model painting for war gamers.
“This is something that gets me out of the house since retiring, talking to other veterans. There are so many people with such a variety of skills, it reminds me of the film ‘The Great Escape’, someone there can do that,” commented one member.
There is also an added bonus of a really great canteen called ‘The Trenches’, where the food is all wholesome and of an excellent quality at reasonable prices.
